Artists need fascinations. I am the sort of artist who finds my art irrelevant if it's just replication of what has already been done. Therefore I need to know unique people, and some of the most unique people (and the ones who don't consider it a dealbreaker to be around people with differing views) are artists. Obviously some of the most powerful art comes from interpersonal relationships of all kinds: platonic, friendly, intellectual, ------, spiritual, what have you. The exposure to other points of view and the fact that knowing real people with these points of view makes it impossible to simply ignore them. I need to know interesting people, even erratic people, to make good art. It's not a purely pragmatic thing, it's not a transaction, because I really, truly, deeply love the people who see things differently.
